IN CHARACTER
Name: James "Logan" Howlett
Canon: Logan
Canon Point: End of Logan, post-death.
Age: 197
History:
Here is a summary of his exploits from X-Men 1 thru 3, with his Origins history. Logan is set in an alternate future, where the events of The Wolverine, Days of Future Past, and Apocalypse never happened. So good news, you don't have to read any of that, but here is a good summary of Logan, with some additional notes below.
In Logan, there are no sentinels, no decade-long war. Events otherwise unfold the same as they had in films 1-3, with Logan staying on at the school following the death of Jean Grey. Charles returns from his "death" at an unknown time, and the X-Men go on to stir the imagination of the public, a kind of fame following on the heels of their appearance at Alcatraz.
Their popularity is so great at one point, that merchandise is produced-- we see one child at the film's end clutching a classic Wolverine action figure, yellow spandex and all --and a comic series featuring their exploits sees production (by Marvel no less, dat meta), although Logan is quick to point out that very little in the comics saw a mirror in reality. "Maybe twenty percent of it happened, and not like this," he tells Laura, clearly contemptuous of it all. The Wolverine is still known in this future, and still has a fan following to boot- or at least some dedicated online stalkers.
Life continued uninterrupted for Logan and his comrades, until Charles' seizure and the subsequent death of the X-Men set into motion the events that eventually led up to where we start in the film. Whew.
Personality:
Logan is, in his own words, "fucked up".
...
All right, let's go deeper. From the outset of the film, Logan appears to be a broken man. Surly, alcoholic, with very little concern for others, he's definitely not the reluctant hero we've followed through the X-Men films. He's the sort of guy who turns away from a woman begging for his help, the sort of guy who knowingly leave a little girl to the mercy of the armed men she was trying to flee.
The world has been pretty shit to Logan, and he sees no real reason to stick his neck out for it in return.
There are three people he feels a need to protect at the film's start, and that's Caliban (sort of, oops), Charles Xavier, and his own ass. He's got himself a mission, one that's quite simple: make enough cash to get a boat and take Charles out to sea, where his devastating powers can't hurt other people. Well, except Caliban and Logan himself, who takes the psychic paralysis in a kind of gruff stride- he's doesn't extend any real sympathy to Caliban for voicing his concerns about it, either. Short-tempered, avoidant and anti-social, Logan doesn't want to be bothered and resents being questioned about his motives, to the point of lashing out when he feels cornered.
In short, he's kind of a no-nonsense, savage fucking dick, and he's pretty well all right with that.
At least that's the first impression, the face he presents to most people; a layer of armor against the world: "Stay out of my shit."
Past the bravado, the acid-tongued retorts and the cynicism, however, he's a man who's also deeply hurting. Logan's had a lot on his plate since the death of the X-Men, tasked with the burden of caring for an ailing Charles Xavier while his own body betrays him. Suffering from blood poisoning due to the adamantium coating his skeleton, his healing factor can no longer keep up, adding daily chronic pain he tries to numb with a fuckton of alcohol.
The death of his comrades is something he glosses over in an early moment of the film, only later revealing-- after Charles' murder at the hands of X-24 --it was an incident that affected him deeply. "Bad shit happens to people I care about," he tells Laura, his voice breaking through his anger. Driving people away, it seems, is the safer option.
Logan shows a kind of care and sensitivity-- even when he's gruff and impatient --with Charles, fiercely loyal to his old mentor. It's Logan who carries the burden of knowledge regarding the incident in Westchester, hiding it from Charles, perhaps knowing how much it would devastate the poor man to understand what he had done. He's quick to rush to his aid even when faced with X-24 carrying Laura out the door-- trusting her to take care of herself --his frantic assurance that "it wasn't [him]" laced with apology.
Just in case the magnitude of just how fucked over things have been for him has been missed, Logan also carried with him what eventually proved to be X-24's undoing: an adamantium bullet, both as a memento and a possible escape. "Actually," he admits near the end of his journey, "I thought about shooting myself with it."
But for all the misery, there's a definite softer side to the aging Wolverine. He's out of the hero business, but still accepts the job to take a little girl and her nurse to safety. He stops on the road to help a family get their escaped horses back in their trailer, and then their truck back on the road. Over dinner with the Munson's, he's affable, even warm- covering his anxiety to get back on the road perhaps, but he's genuine with his thanks. His thanks extends ever further when he offers to assist the family after their water pump is sabotaged, and comes to Will Munson's defense when the saboteurs try to intimidate him.
Though he first seems cold, even annoyed by Laura's presence, he warms to her slowly over the course of the film. More honest with her than perhaps anyone else, he seems to take Charles' suggestion to heart, that she can be taught to be better than him, and throughout their journey together he follows through on that. Logan keeps her from breaking the change container of a gas station kiddie ride, from stabbing a store clerk who caught her shoplifting, gets her to her friends in Eden, and disputes her assertion that all the people she killed were "bad men", not innocent. "All the same," he tells her. "You're gonna have to find a way to live with that."
At the film's climax, rather than turn away, he races to stop Transigen from recapturing Laura and the other children, and they're a team when they face off against Dr Rice's men. Logan's hope seems finally renewed even as he's dying, offering his last, honest assurances that she doesn't have to fight anymore, exhorting her to "don't be what they made you".
In short, Logan is a loner by necessity, a gruff old soldier with a streak of cynicism a mile wide, who's nonetheless not beyond using his skills to help someone who's endeared themselves to him. When the shit hits the fan, he's still the guy you want to have on your side, snark and all.
Setting:
Logan isn't planning on returning home. As far as he's concerned, he died there, it's done, and it's best he doesn't return. Thisavrou presents an interesting sort of second chance for him, and as they saved his life and seem to have given him more precious time with people he cares about, he ought to make some sort of effort in return.
That's not to say it'll be at all easy, but he's a stubborn old asshole who's feeling up to the challenge. Just... he'll need some time to get a bit more used to the place. He'll take a rather mercenary tack at first with Ingress travel and working with NPCs and strangers alike, ever the survivor looking out for himself and his own.
Abilities/Skills:
As a mutant, Logan has a pretty sweet healing factor to his name, something that has defined who he is for nearly two centuries. It's dinged up a bit, not quite as quick as it was when he was younger, but it still works. Alongside this are his trademark bone claws, and his superior sense of smell and hearing.
Oh, and we can't forget the adamantium surgically grafted to his skeleton, which makes him pretty invulnerable to things that would otherwise destroy normal human bone. Like getting shot in the chest. Or stabbed. Or hit in the face with a tire iron, shit happens. Downside of having so much adamantium for his system to deal with? It also gave him blood poisoning in the end and eventually messed with his healing factor, woo. While the aggressive, life-saving treatment he received on arrival in Savrou gave him a fresh start and a clean slate, over time the adamantium is still going to fuck his day up. Rinse, repeat.
Skill-wise: He has military and combat training under his belt, a bit of experience as a teacher, excellent survival skills, DAMN can he drive (chauffeur skills++), and he has first-aid training.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Gets. Shit. DONE. When he sets himself to a task, he'll see it through to the bitter end. Loyal af once he respects someone, quick to learn, and Logan just has an innate ability to land on his feet, set up shop for himself and whomever's under his care, and power through.
Weaknesses: Brusque, impatient, stubborn, short-tempered, alcoholic, resistant to change, doesn't suffer fools, works best alone OR with a small team he trusts- and this retired Wolverine is more prickly and discerning than his younger self.
Items:
The very ruined clothes on his back, a cellphone, wallet with ID and (American) cash.

Network Sample:
[ Social media, in Logan's firm opinion, is useless shit to him. Maybe he's too used to having been in hiding for too long, but it just feels like a bad idea to be connected to a network, even if he never uses it.
Now that he needs it....urgh, it's still a bad idea. ]
I'm not gonna bore everyone with story time introduction bullshit- I got a question for residents of Kauto.
You guys got an eye doctor somewhere on this planet? Someone that sees humans, not...aliens or whatever else. I need a pair of readers.
That's reading glasses, if I wasn't clear. I'd like to get them pretty quick.
Thanks.
