[Laura considers leaving him a message afters he sees Charles. She knows that he's seen him recently too, she's felt the emotions rolling off of him in waves that smother her and make it hard to breathe. She can't sense other people's emotions, but he's such a large part of her orbit that she's drawn in to any little change and picks up on it instantly. But she's so lost in what's going on with her here, trying to navigate having family and being so idle all the time. It's hard on her to be like a normal kid, and she knows that's what's expected of her here.
Even though she's had trouble acting like any other eleven year old might, her reaction after seeing Charles is pretty average to any kid that's confused and upset. She runs to find her father because he'll be able to make things better.
When she finds him outside, she ignores the bottle he's holding and plows right into him. Her arms wrap around him tightly and she rubs her face against his shirt like that might get rid of all the tears that are falling.]
Daddy.
[She really needs to work on calling him that when she's not crying and emotional. And she's so worked up that she can't get out the reason she's so upset right away. She needs a moment to calm down before she can explain.]
[ It was weakness, the way he retreated into a bottle. He knew it, realized he should have probably felt some measure of shame for it, and didn't fucking care. He'd embarrassed himself enough the way he lost it on seeing Charles again, and needed to lick his wounds.
At least the day finished pretty. A burnished gold sky over the green lawn, framing in Laura and her tearful little face. Wait, what-
She hits him so hard it nearly winds him, and he drops the whiskey beside him in the grass so he can pull her tight to his chest. Laura doesn't idly drop that word; she doesn't hang off his arm and joyfully harass him with it. Something's hurt her, and he's going to protect her.
Something also tells him he can't savage the person responsible for her hurt, not this time. ]
[The scent of whiskey fills her nose and feels stifling. She knows that adults drink, but she doesn't like him doing it. So she doesn't spare the fallen bottle a glance, and instead just clings to him for a few moments. She's upset and has no idea how to gather her thoughts or talk about why she's upset.
She didn't know Charles Xavier for as long as he did, but he was one of the most important figures in her life.
When she's finally able to try talking, she pulls away just enough to tip back her head.]
I am sorry for not protecting Charles.
[It's not the fact that he's shown up here, younger and with too much hair. She's glad that any version of him is here with her. But seeing him triggered memories of his death in their time that she repressed and never dealt with. Apparently that can cause some intense emotions that are difficult to control.]
